After getting used to one game, transitioning to another is still not easy with all the new mechanics, learning new characters etc, and on top of that needing to relearn the whole notification system is just a lot to take in. I remember being a new player(now no longer new but still garbage), and trying to learn combo notations, getting used to the numpad, learning the shorthand for stuff that can't be described using numpad+ABCD, trying to actually memorize it and perform the combo. People who play one fighting game is likely to at least try some of the many others and now everything is mixed up and confusing when you are used to reading one type of notations because the same numbers and letters end up being completely different stuff in different notations.

And we have Mortal Kombat which I just read up on recently, seems like it would be D1(correct me if im wrong?), still cool in a vacuum, letters for the lever, numbers for the buttons. With anime games it would be 2A, even better since we now separate the notation, numbers for the lever, letters for the buttons. Short enough to not fill the whole screen with it and still understandable. Say crouching light attack, with street fighter it would be cr.LP. But having different notation for general stuff like forward/backward is just pointless. We also have stuff that cannot be generalized like anime games have ABCD and SF/KoF have separate Punch and Kick buttons, or how Smash somewhat an outlier so it really needs its own notations, I understand that as well. I completely understand why we need combo notations because it takes forever to try to decipher stuff if we use the proper names for every ability, and arrows are a pain in the ass to type. So with the release of MK11, I realized that the mortal kombat community uses completely different combo notation when compared to what I am used to which lead to this rant.
